Get Involved!

We're building a global kitchen gardening movement and can use all the hands (and brains) we can enlist.  Here are the different volunteer roles you can play within KGI:

Member

By joining our website and filling out your member profile, you're in!  How easy is that?  Once you're on the inside, you can use our forums, make comments, ask questions, join groups and pods, and connect with other gardeners, near and far.

If you are interested in digging deeper into our work, you can apply for one of the roles below. Before applying, you'll need to register (or log in) as a member first and fill out your member profile. That way we know a little bit more about you and what you have to offer.

Organizer

Do you like bringing people together in person and online?  Then, you should consider applying to be a KG organizer.  By being an organizer, you enjoy the same access to our site as a member, but also have the ability to start your own local pod or a virtual group on kitchen garden- related topic of your choosing.  The organizer role puts you at the center of your local kitchen gardening community or your favorite issue.

Mentor

Are you an expert kitchen gardener and/or garden cook?  Do you have an interesting geographic perspective or a deep level of understanding about particular issue related to food, cooking, gardens, or local food systems?  Do you enjoy sharing your knowledge with others through writing, blogging, and/or public talks or courses?  If so, the mentor role is for you.  By being a mentor, you enjoy full member privileges plus are able to use our blogging and recipe upload tools to share what you know with our 20,000 members worldwide.  You can also lend a hand by answering a question or two that has come in via our questions page.

Partner

Are you an official representative (i.e. staff member or board member) of community-based nonprofit group that is promoting kitchen gardening at the local level and interested in creating synergies between your group's work and KGI's?  To date, KGI has worked with partner groups in Asia, Africa, Central and South America and has been able to help them by providing technical assistance, volunteers, and, in some cases, mini-grants for projects.  By becoming a partner, you can share your group's work and expertise with a larger, global audience and have the opportunity to request assistance.  You will also become part of our growing network of partners offering your group a chance to connect with, teach, and learn from groups like your own in different parts of the world.

Kitchen Gardeners Unite!

We're planting a new website which will sprout in February 2012. In the meantime, you can join our community by signing up for mailing list here:
