Homegrown Mojito

If mint is overtaking your herb garden, one social way of dealing with the problem would be to invite your neighbors over for mojito party. Considered the national drink of Cuba, a mojito brings together lime juice, mint, rum, cane sugar and club soda into one of the most refreshing cocktails on the planet. The original Cuban recipe uses spearmint or "Yerba buena", a much lighter mint variety very popular in the island.
- 2 large sprigs of spearmint
- Couple wedges of juicy lime
- 2 teaspoons of sugar
- 2 oz white rum
- Ice – crushed is best, small cubed is okay too
- Club soda
- Place a sprig worth of mint leaves, sugar, and a wedge of lime in a tall glass. Tall highball glass preferred.
-
Muddle with a wooden or non-reactive metal muddler
.
- Add crushed ice, rum, and stir well to dissolve sugar to your liking.
- Top off with club soda and stir lightly to incorporate.
- Garnish with fresh sprig of mint and an wheel of lime.
- Slowly sip your labor of love, enjoy the way the flavors meld over time. Do not chug down in less time than it took you to make it.
